Average is just, well, average, middle of the road. Normal can be VERY different from the middle of the road, like very pretty or smart or less than either of those, but still in the range of normal. Like a model or a Bill Gates, a normal person but definitely not average.

I think it’s a mistake to confuse “normal” with “average.” I’m normal but not average by a long shot.

So, normal is a larger range of characteristics than average.
It can be. One way to look at it is that average is probably going to be normal but normal can be very far off from average.
