You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed…

“Men have forgotten this truth, but you must not forget it. You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.”

  1. The whole essence of taming something is to suggest you have taken the nature out of whatever you have tamed in order to make it behave as you would see fit. There fore if you remove the primal instincts of any animal you have to take responsibility for what happens to them. The same goes for humans in relationship. But sadly I don’t think we as humans are very good at taking responsibility, many find it easier to pass it to some one else.

So true, Michael, unfortunately so true – we are often too quick to pass responsibility to someone else to save our own egos. The word ‘taming’ however has a slightly different meaning to me – more like getting to know someone closely, ‘opening up’ another person, gaining someone’s trust. That does bring certain responsibilities – including the key one ‘do no harm’.

      • Oh I do like that meaning. In that light you would open up new possibilities, and I would suggest trust would be a major factor. I like the ‘do no harm’ aspect as that is what we try so often, and at times we do harm, unintentionally, but its a side of acceptance of another that they are human and are bound to fail every so often. What an interesting discussion. Thanks O.

The pleasure is mine. It is always a pleasure talking to you (in writing), Michael 🙂

      • ha, of course pleasure is mine too……

Did you read my Tackas story?

No, not yet. Had not time to get to it yet, but will do as soon as I can 🙂
